Emergency Communicators is an installation work for three monitors, on each of which is a man (performed by Angie Smalis) at home. They’re talking on the radio, about their day, what they see around them, a recent local tragedy, and plans for a crisis response. This work explores how communication protocols allow people to more easily share attitudes on events, closely-held values, and circumstances that might otherwise leave the speaker feeling too vulnerable to discuss.

Emergency Communicators takes place within the fictional world of a previous work, All The Relations, in which these three characters are mentioned, and one of them, Dave, plays a central role.

Emergency Communicators was installed at Limerick City Gallery of Art, January 12-15, 2024.

All The Relations was created in residence at Dance Limerick and performed at both Dance Limerick and Dance Cork Firkin Crane, in Nov/Dec 2023.
