Capital
Capital is based on an historical event of 449 AD, when, in the twilight of the Western Roman Empire, a plan conceived in the Eastern capital, Constantinople, for one of the diplomats to assassinate Attila the Hun -- unbeknownst to the other Roman diplomats -- is foiled by the barbarian ambassador complicit in the plot. “Capital” takes place in Constantinople, beginning with the return of the ambassadors to Constantinople following the failed embassy. Focusing on political intrigue and the moral landscape within the capital, the story takes place entirely within the palace.
Capital was filmed in 2021 during the pandemic. Each dancer developed their material through remote rehearsals, and each was filmed in a studio local to them - in Limerick, Berlin, Bilbao, London, and New York City - with costumes and make-up sent by mail from Limerick. Editing and Post-production took place in Limerick and New York City.
